Een overzicht van de user interfaces die in de film Oblivion voorkomen.
Via bram.us stootte ik op dit filmpje. En ondertussen zijn alle F User Interfaces (met een F die staat voor Fantasy, Fictional, Fake of Futuristic ) teszamen gebracht in een IMDB-achtige database , Kit FUI. Deze bevat gebruikersinterfaces of zogenaamde heads up displays die in de talrijke films of tv-series te zien zijn. Dankzij deze site kun je vergapen aan al het interface oogsnoep en gemakkelijk de screenshots, de videos en de mensen achter de visuele effecten terugvinden.
Ik deed het vroeger op Opsite knie-of heupverbanden op orthopedie. We moesten er toch met stift de datum op schrijven. De verleiding was dus groot om hier snel een paasklok of een kerstboom aan toe te voegen. Patiënten gaven er niet om, en de collega’s vonden het wel een leuke vondst bij de verbandcontrole. Deze vader doet het sinds 2008 dagelijks op de lunchzakjes van zijn kinderen. Op zijn Flickr-set Sandwich Art kun je al zijn creaties (meer dan 1100 stuks!) vinden.
If this was going to be viewed forever by young high school kids and college kids — young entrepreneurs who want to go out and do something while they’re still young. You know, the advantages of doing that. It opened up a whole new gate for other young entrepreneurs. What advice would you give them?
antwoordt Steve Jobs, toen nog aan het werk bij NeXT, het volgende:
When you grow up you, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is, and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact that everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.
The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That’s maybe the most important thing. It’s to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there, and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.
I think that’s very important and however you learn that, once you learn it, you’ll want to change life and make it better, cause it’s kind of messed up, in a lot of ways. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again. Most people never pick up the phone, most people never ask. And that’s what separates, sometimes, the people that do things from the people that just dream about them. You gotta act. And you gotta be willing to fail… if you’re afraid of failing, you won’t get very far.”
Uit Steve Jobs: Secrets of Life , een documentaire die in 2009 gemaakt werd door de Silicon Valley Historical Association en opgebouwd werd rond een 20 minuten durend interview die Steve Jobs in 1994 gaf. De achtergrond, het telefoontje die de 12-jarige Steve Jobs naar Bill Hewlett (van Hewlett-Packard) deed, vind je bij Open Culture, The Marginalian (vroeger Brainpickings) of hieronder, in een ander fragment van het interview zelf.
Zondag 13 juni 2010. Federale verkiezingen. De stembus stond in De Loods, en deed tijdens het wachten dienst als eerste foursquare check-in.
Ondertussen hebben we in die drie jaar in Gent, en soms daarbuiten, al wat afgecrossed. Foursquare trachtte de volgende 4325 check-ins met Time Machine in een overzicht te gieten.
30 jaar oud alweer. De terugblik zorgt voor enkele hilarische herinneringen aan het paleis van Jabba The Hutt, slavin Leia, Yoda, Ewoks, mijn favoriete Admiral “It’s a trap!” Ackbar, Palpatine en de onthulling van Darth Vader.
Het Star Wars Logo zag er in den beginne ook helemaal anders uit. Het overzicht van de evolutie van het lettertype is best interessant om even doorheen te scrollen.
Ik denk daar wel eens over na. Over signaal en lawaai bij het gebruik van technologie. Over attention span en filter failure. Ook: see what I did there?
